Start a US LLC from Argentina

Stripe does not serve businesses in Argentina, and for years exchange controls made it hard to hold and move dollars. Many of those rules were eased in 2025 and 2026, but not all of them, and the tax side has not changed.

Important: Argentine exchange rules still change by Banco Central communication, sometimes several times a year. Check the current rules with your bank and a contador before your first transfer to or from the LLC.

Why a US LLC

Why Argentine founders form a US LLC

Stripe is not available

Stripe does not open accounts for businesses registered in Argentina. A US LLC can apply for a US Stripe account.

Revenue that stays in dollars

The peso has lost value quickly for years. Sales invoiced and held in dollars in a US account keep their value in dollars.

Shopify Payments

Shopify Payments is not offered in Argentina. A US company with a US bank account can use it for its store.

One company for clients abroad

Invoice US and other foreign clients from a US company, and receive the money in the US.

Getting paid from Argentina

Stripe's list of supported countries does not include Argentina, and Shopify Payments is not offered there. PayPal works, but withdrawals to an Argentine bank account are paid out in pesos at PayPal's exchange rate.

With a US LLC, its EIN and a US business bank account, you can apply for a US Stripe account and receive payouts in dollars in the US. Stripe reviews every account and decides; no one can promise approval.

Exchange rules in 2026

In April 2025 the Banco Central lifted most exchange controls (the cepo) for individuals: you can again buy foreign currency in the official market without the old monthly cap. Companies still face restrictions, for example on buying dollars to hold.

The rules still change by Banco Central communication. Since 10 April 2026 (Communication A 8417), a transfer of foreign currency abroad requires your sworn statement that you will not buy securities settled in foreign currency, such as MEP or CCL dollar operations, for the next 90 days. The same communication extended to all types of services the exemption that lets individuals who export services keep their collections in dollars instead of converting them to pesos, under conditions.

In practice your bank applies the rules in force for each transfer. Ask your bank and your contador before you send money to the LLC or bring profit home.

Argentine tax

Argentina taxes residents on worldwide income (Ganancias). The income tax law has international tax transparency rules (article 133) that can attribute the income of a foreign company controlled by a resident directly to the owner. One of the tests is whether the company is a taxpayer in its own country, and a single-member US LLC is not, by default.

Your interest in a foreign company and bank accounts abroad in your own name are assets abroad for the Bienes Personales wealth tax, which looks at what you own on 31 December each year. How the LLC and its profit go on your returns is a question for a contador.

The US side is the same for everyone

Where you live does not change the US part. It is done online, without travelling, without a US address and without an SSN.

  1. Choose a state: Wyoming or New Mexico for low running costs, Delaware if you plan to raise money from investors.
  2. The formation document is filed with a registered agent in that state, within 48 hours.
  3. The EIN is requested from the IRS as soon as the state approves. No SSN or ITIN is needed.
  4. You get the operating agreement that banks and payment providers ask for.
  5. With those documents you apply for a US business bank account, for example at Mercury.
  6. Every year: the registered agent, the state's annual report where there is one, and Form 5472 for a single-member LLC owned by a foreign person.

Which state?

With no people or premises in the US you can choose any state. Most founders abroad choose on yearly cost and speed.

Argentina FAQ

Questions from Argentine founders

Can an Argentine resident own a US LLC?

Yes. No US state requires the owner to be a US citizen or resident, and the EIN is issued without an SSN or ITIN. Money you send goes through the exchange market under the Banco Central rules in force at that moment.

Do I need a CUIT for the US LLC?

Not for the US side; you identify yourself with your passport. Your CUIT matters for your Argentine returns, where the LLC and its income are reported.

Is the cepo over?

Largely for individuals since April 2025, not fully. Companies still have restrictions, and transfers abroad by individuals now come with a 90-day commitment not to buy securities settled in foreign currency.

Is a US LLC a way around Argentine tax?

No. As an Argentine tax resident you are taxed on worldwide income, and the LLC and its US account have to be declared.
