How it works
Six steps. You do two of them.
Everything that can be automated is; everything that needs a human at our end has a 48-hour service promise.
Step 1
You fill in the order (10 minutes)
State, company name, the people behind it, what the business does, where mail should go. We check the name against the state's register.
Step 2
You pay once
By card. The total is our package plus the state fee, nothing else. The 48-hour clock starts the moment the payment lands.
Step 3
We file the Articles of Organization
Through our registered agent partner in your state, with their street address as the registered office. Most states approve within one to five business days; some the same day.
Step 4
Your registered agent is appointed
Included for a year. State notices and legal mail are scanned and appear on your order page.
Step 5
We apply for your EIN
If the responsible party has a US SSN or ITIN we apply online with the IRS. If not, which is most of our customers, you sign Form SS-4 on your order page and we fax it to the IRS from our own fax line. The IRS faxes the EIN letter back, usually within a few business days, and it lands on your order page automatically.
Step 6
Documents, bank account, bookkeeping
Approved articles, EIN letter and your operating agreement are ready to download. Your order page then points you to Mercury for a US business account through our introduction, and if you added CORA your bookkeeping is set up as soon as the EIN is in.
What the 48-hour promise means
Within 48 hours of your payment, every form is filled in and submitted to the state, the registered agent and, where possible, the IRS. It does not mean your LLC is approved in 48 hours: the state decides that on its own timeline, which we show per state. The SS-4 can only be faxed once the state has approved the formation, because the IRS asks for the formation date; we prepare it in advance and fax it the moment the approval comes in.
If we miss the 48 hours through our own fault, we refund our package fee in full. See the refund policy.
